How it works
Enter the name
Type the RuneScape name you want to check — up to 12 characters.
We check 4 sources
OSRS Hiscores, Wise Old Man, TempleOSRS, and RunePal are all queried simultaneously.
Get a confidence score
A single result tells you if the name is Taken, Likely Taken, or Possibly Available.
Why use RuneChecker?
Multi-source verification
Hiscores only shows ranked accounts. RuneChecker also checks WOM and TempleOSRS for unranked or historical accounts you'd otherwise miss.
Confidence scoring
Instead of a binary yes/no, you get a confidence level: Taken, Likely Taken, Possibly Available, or Unknown — with context for each.
Check before committing
Name changes on OSRS go through Jagex's in-game interface. Use RuneChecker first so you're not guessing when it counts.
No login, no risk
We never ask for your Jagex account, RuneScape password, or any personal information. Just type a name and check.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I check if a RuneScape name is available?
Enter the name you want in RuneChecker's search box. We check it against four public sources — OSRS Hiscores, Wise Old Man, TempleOSRS, and RunePal — and return a confidence score within seconds. No login or RuneScape account required.
What happens to an OSRS name after someone changes it?
When a player changes their OSRS username, their old name goes into a 28-day hold period before Jagex releases it back into the pool. During that window the name is unavailable even though it won't appear on hiscores anymore. RuneChecker cannot track names in the hold period — always verify in-game before changing.
Is RuneChecker only for OSRS, or does it also check RS3 names?
RuneChecker currently checks Old School RuneScape name sources only. OSRS Hiscores, Wise Old Man, and TempleOSRS are all OSRS-specific platforms. RS3 name availability requires checking the RS3 hiscores separately, which RuneChecker does not currently support.
Why does RuneChecker say a name is 'Possibly Available' when it's clearly taken?
This can happen if a player's account has never been looked up on any of the four public trackers — for example, level 3 accounts or accounts that have never appeared on the hiscores. RuneChecker can only report on what public data shows. A result of 'Possibly Available' is not a guarantee the name is claimable.
Do I need a RuneScape login to use RuneChecker?
No. RuneChecker never asks for your Jagex account, RuneScape password, or any authentication. We use only public data from official and community-run OSRS trackers. No login. No risk.
