Four sources. One answer.
We check all four in parallel and combine the results
OSRS Hiscores
Jagex's official player rankings. A hit here means the name is definitively in use by an account with at least one skill.
Wise Old Man
The community's most trusted XP tracker. Covers active and historical player accounts far beyond hiscores.
TempleOSRS
Competitive XP and activity tracker for speed-runs, leagues, and group tracking.
RunePal
Our OSRS character tracker. A match here means the account has been actively looked up recently.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the OSRS name checker work?
RuneChecker queries four independent public sources in parallel: the official OSRS Hiscores, Wise Old Man, TempleOSRS, and RunePal. It combines the results into a single confidence score — Taken, Likely Taken, Possibly Available, or Unknown — so you get a clear answer without switching between multiple sites.
Is a 'Possibly Available' name guaranteed to be claimable?
No. A result of 'Possibly Available' means the name doesn't appear on any of the four public trackers. However, Jagex's full account database is private. A name could still be held by an inactive, level 3, or never-tracked account that has never appeared on hiscores. Always verify directly in-game before committing to a name change.
What if a name appears on one source but not others?
RuneChecker returns 'Likely Taken' when a name is found on exactly one source. This is common for accounts that have only been looked up on one tracker. It's still a strong signal the name is in use — proceed with caution.
Can old or inactive OSRS names be reclaimed?
Jagex introduced the Name Release system, which makes names from inactive accounts available over time. An account must have not logged in for an extended period and meet certain inactivity thresholds. RuneChecker cannot predict whether a specific name qualifies — it only shows whether the name currently appears on public trackers.
Do I need a RuneScape login to check a name?
No. RuneChecker uses only public data from OSRS Hiscores, Wise Old Man, TempleOSRS, and RunePal. No RuneScape account, Jagex login, or personal information is ever required.
